Oak class have been looking at the different parts of our digestion system and the purpose of each feature. They have labelled the organs within the digestive system and then did a practical experiment. They used a plastic bag to represent the stomach. They added crackers and a pear to the bag to represent eating the food and they poured in water (representing saliva) and orange squash (representing stomach acid). As a class they took turns to squash, squeeze and mix the food, much like the stomach does. Then they poured the contents into tights (representing the small intestine). Lots of liquid poured out. The liquid represents the nutrients that our body needs and would use. Once the liquid had poured out, we moved the contents to a cup (representing the large intestine) and squeezed the food out, representing what happens when we go to the toilet.
