Dear parents and carers,
this is my last newsletter for Kenton Primary School so I have to start off by saying a HUGE thank you to an awful lot of people.
Firstly, thank you to my colleagues who have made me so welcome for my year with the school and have shown every day their love and care for the pupils – Kenton is a very special place where every comes to work with a will to work hard and do their best for the children. There are no passengers here and no mood hoovers. Thank you to every teacher, TA, cleaner, caterer, cleaner, coach and musician… (I’m now in terror that I have left someone out)
Thanks also to the central team at Ivy Education Trust who are very much behind the scenes but who work incredibly hard to keep the Ivy schools running as smoothly as possible. I have worked in a few trusts and I really love this one. They have great values and really prioritise the human over the spreadsheet.
Thanks to all the parents and carers (aunties, uncles, grandparents and ‘next door neighbour that we call aunty but really isn’t technically a relative’ inclusive. I have been so quickly made to feel like a proper member of the Kenton Primary School Community and treated such warmth. I know that you will do the same for my successor, Francesca Toms, when she steps into role in September.
Lastly, but by no means least, a huge thankyou to the brilliant children of Kenton Primary. You have made every day a joy and I will miss you all so very much. I’m already plotting how I can get an invitation to pop in in the autumn to check in on you and see how everyone is doing.
I would like to say how humbled and grateful I have been for all the many cards and gifts I’ve received over the past few days – people have been so very generous. I know that my colleagues would join with me in saying that we have been really moved by the generosity we have been shown.
This has been a really special year for me – thank you everyone!

I want to take a moment to thank you all.
It has been such a privilege to be part of Kenton Primary School. I have loved watching your children grow, flourish, and develop into confident young people.
The sense of community here is so special, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have been part of it both as a teacher and as a SENCO.
Thank you for all your kind messages, cards and gifts, I will treasure them. As we head into the much-anticipated summer holidays, I would like to wish every family a restful, happy, and enjoyable break. Thank you once again for your kindness, support, and friendship over the years.

Awesome Year Six
Our lovely year sixes did themselves proud with a great Leavers’ Assembly on Thursday. There were cute photos, memories, songs and poetry. Looking back at this past year, they have done such a great job under the guidance of care of our brilliant Mr Keirle. We’ll remember our Christmas Concert at the Church, The Jungle Book, Exe Valley Challenge, We The Curious, The Community Cafe and so much more. What Superstars!
Uniform
Over these past weeks, with the extremely hot weather, we have been very relaxed about uniform. When we return from the Summer holidays, I imagine the weather is likely to be much cooler and Mrs Toms and the teaching staff are going to be a good deal pickier on school uniform and will be trying hard to get us back to our usual smartly turned out look. If you are buying new shoes, please remember that we ask for plain black. We are just as happy with plain black trainers as plain black school shoes. We have seen quite a variety of shorts creeping in including some very short shorts and some very tight shorts – our uniform asks for a grey tailored short or skirt. Staff will be picking up on this so, if you are shopping in the summer holidays, remember that you can pick these items up very cheaply in any supermarket – no need to pay more somewhere else – particularly if you are going to get an email reminding you that your child’s choice isn’t in line with the policy!
Parking
A plea from local residents not to park in a way that blocks their drives or blocks their visibility as they try to leave their property. We have had two near misses this week and we really don’t want a serious accident. When we were based in the old school, people were in the habit of parking in the triangle and walking around the corner to the school. While I know that we are a little further from the triangle now and up a bit of a slope, I still think that this is very much a preferable option to trying to park up by the school and causing a danger. Please do park with consideration and, unless you have a specific disability which you have discussed with us, please don’t try and park right up here at the school – there just isn’t the room for everyone who might like to and it just isn’t safe.
